When TVs first started sprouting Internet connections, they offered a small collection of online services, namely the big ones like Netflix and Pandora, plus a news, traffic or photo option. Now the better TVs boast hundreds or even thousands of online apps, much like a smartphone or tablet does. Most are still free to download (although like Netflix they may require a paid subscription). It’s a big deal because it has the potential to fundamentally change why we turn on our TVs. These apps have grown beyond music and video. Now there are apps for just about anything, from cooking to games to fitness. Your next TV could take the place of your personal trainer.
