This little known movie is a must-see. Writer/director Dee Rees makes her feature debut by extracting from her upbringing for this coming-of-age story. Before you think this is another one of those, know that the main character is an African-American female on the verge of coming out as a lesbian. It may not be the typical teen tale, but it’s a touching one—with a special thanks to star Adepero Oduye.

The 1.85:1 transfer and lone DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track are decent for a low-budget film. The extras, however, are but a blip and a completely wasted opportunity. Still, it’s one worth watching!
