You’ve seen this one before. Yep, the Nest Learning Thermostat from Nest Labs has taken the world by storm—or as much by storm as a thermostat can. Designed by former Apple folk, the Nest brings iPod-like one-button simplicity to those hard-to-program thermostats. You rotate the outer ring to adjust the temperature. The display turns blue when cooling and red when heating. Push down to open the menu, and a leaf appears when you’re saving energy. The thermostat is supposed to learn your personal schedule in a week and starts automatically turning down heating or cooling when you’re away to save energy. Though be forewarned: some glitches have occurred with review units during the week-long learning phase. Oh, and if you want, it can be manually programmed for seven days with 20 set points per day. Price is $250.
