Most TV service providers, including Comcast (XFINITY) and Verizon (FiOS) include apps (for both iOS and Android) that allow you to control a set-top-box and DVR. These are great secondary remote options, and also are handy for remotely scheduling or deleting recordings, but because they don’t help you turn the TV on and off or control volume, they’re no replacement for a true universal remote.
