Now that’s more like it. Trek fans have been salivating at the prospect of soon owning the complete first season of The Next Generation on Blu-ray Disc, and that truly is coming soon. (Really.) The folks at CBS and Paramount will soon be bringing us every Season One episode in glorious full HD with completely restored and re-created special FX specially optimized for the high definition format. While we wait, CBS has released this sampler disc containing three finished episodes: the pilot (“Encounter at Farpoint”), “Sins of the Father,” and “The Inner Light” - three classics to be sure. After some admitted skepticism over how this 4:3 series would translate to HD, my worries are gone. These episodes look and sound fantastic, and if they’re any indication of what’s in store, TNG fans the world over should prepare to engage.
