The new Elite TVs are born from a marriage between Pioneer’s Elite brand and Sharp Electronics. This 70-inch LED LCD TV incorporates full-array backlighting, localized dimming, plus a yellow subpixel along with the standard red/blue/green formulation. Videophiles will be pleased to learn that Elite TVs are both THX- and ISF-certified. A picture feature unique to Elite is Intelligent Variable Contrast, which automatically controls both the brightness and backlight to enhance color depth, brilliance and detail in dark areas. It’s also a smart TV with a suite of online features including streaming access to Netflix, Vudu, CinemaNow, YouTube and Elite Advantage Live, which allows online tech support directly through the TV. A remote technician can adjust the settings of the TV, so you can just hand it over to the experts without letting them into your home. Elite TVs are 3D-capable and ship with two active shutter glasses. $8,499
