“The mobile device will be primary point of control in the home in 2016,” Pedigo says, “For the first time everyone in the home has a personalized remote control.” And custom electronics (CE) pros may well be designing custom interfaces on smartphones instead of touchscreens. “In the next five to 10 years we’ll see user customizable apps. The user will have the ability to go in and establish how they want to control things. … But do people want one app to control it all or one device to control it all? I think vast majority of installs will be a single device with multiple apps.”
