Nyxio's Fully Integrated TVs

One of the things that separates the current options in smart TVs from devices that really are “smart” in the technology sense (smart phones, tablets, computers, home controllers) is that what we call smart TVs are mostly just TVs with access to a fixed list of content apps. That’s different with Nyxio, a newcomer to the TV market. This year the company is launching Android TVs—that is TVs with fully-integrated Android operating systems and all the benefits that come with that.

Look at it this way, what would a tablet PC or smart phone be like if it was restricted to only a few hand-picked apps (um, I guess it would look like the Kindle Fire, maybe)? Compare that to one that is essentially open, with thousands of apps. Nyxio is currently a small player in the TV market, but the idea is big and worth paying attention to.

The company also offers a TV with an integrated Windows 7 computer, complete with hard drive, DVD drive and a wireless keyboard. Electronic House will have a hands-on look at one of those Viosphere TVs soon.
