STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA

Much has been written about this long-awaited Blu-ray box set from Lucasfilm and the folks at Fox. To sum up: all six films are now on Blu-ray Disc and you get a boat load of bonus material and some truly geektastic deleted scenes.

BUT.

As you’ve undoubtedly heard, Lucas has once again refused to give fans the original theatrical editions of the original trilogy. Translation: these aren’t the films you’re looking for. Worse still is that Lucas has further tweaked these “special” editions and added controversial changes. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Lucas can do whatever he wants to these films. They are indeed his films. However, to not give fans the original theatrical editions of these landmark spectacles - the Star Wars films we all grew up loving - that’s not only an insult to fans, but it’s an insult to cinema history.

You can throw all of the special features, deleted scenes, fancy packaging, and iPad apps you want at this set, but without the theatrical, unmolested cuts of the original trilogy, all of that stuff is just lipstick on a Gungan. Pass.
