SKATELAND

I’m a sucker for coming-of-age stories that transport us back to a unique place and time. In this case, the place is small town Texas and the time is the early 1980’s. Friends are growing, the roller rink is closing, life is changing, you know the drill. And while Skateland can’t really give Dazed and Confused - or even Adventureland - a run for its money, it’s a stronger effort than some. And if John Hughes-style dramedies are your cup of tea, this one’s worth at least a rental. Fox’s Blu-ray offers solid picture and sound, but don’t expect much in the Extras department beyond a few deleted scenes.
