Frank (Rainn Wilson) is a loser. A depressed short order cook with little to live for beyond his lovely bride, Sarah (Liv Tyler), you can imagine his reaction when Sarah leaves him to be with a villainous Kevin Bacon. Or maybe you can’t. For after all, this is a James Gunn (Slither) movie. After being touched (rather disgustingly) by The Finger of God, Frank knows what he has to do to get Sarah back. He must become… The Crimson Bolt. A decidedly less-than-super hero, the Crimson Bolt, along with his trusty sidekick, Boltie (Ellen Page), fights the forces of evil the only way he knows how: by beating them senseless with a pipe wrench. If this sounds like a twisted and bizarre film, that’s because that’s exactly what it is. Featuring the blackest of black comedy and some startling gore at times, Super isn’t for everyone, but if you’re a fan of Gunn’s twisted sense of humor, this could be just what the doctor ordered. Shut up, Crime!
