What began as the Vader family’s automated lighting display soon spread to a block-wide event. Using 128 channels of animation, a few wireless devices, and a few hundred feet of Cat 5, a total of four homes are synchronized for 2010, belting out classic holiday tunes while the lights play along. At last count, this year’s display features 70,000 lights, 80 strobe lights, virtual snow machines, a virtual Santa , red and green flood backdrops, a 20-foot “mega tree,” and a slew of other special effects.
