No HD Wii Coming
Rachel Cericola • 01:11 PM,

Well that rumor was short-lived. Less than a week ago, we heard grumblings about the next version of Nintendo’s Wii, better known as the “HD Wii” or “Wii HD.” You can call it whatever you want, because sadly, those rumors were nothing more than just that. In an interview with VentureBeat, Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime denied any such product. “It’s pure rumor and speculation,” he said. “I find it disappointing…

Once you get a decent amount of points, you can redeem them for goods at the Club’s store. The company is kicking off the program with the…

Court Rejects Dish Network Appeal
Rachel Cericola • 09:15 AM,

Dish Network was issued quite a blow yesterday. The Supreme Court rejected the satellite provider’s appeal against the $74 million judgment, which was issued for violating TiVo’s patent on DVR technology. The court had no comment. In January, they had plenty to say, ruling that DVRs distributed by Dish Network violated some of the software elements in TiVo’s patent, specifically the “time warp” feature, which allows viewers to watch one…

Rachel Cericola • 06:02 PM,

Most females don’t gravitate towards blue and yellow—unless they are Chargers fans, that is. So to help woo more female customers, Best Buy is adding a woman’s touch to some of its stores. Not every store will receive a makeover, but some of the newer locations, including Denver, will get earth tones and skylights, says BloggingStocks. The consumer electronics giant is buying into the whole notion that women have purchasing…

Integra Gets Into Blu-ray Game
Arlen Schweiger • 04:44 PM,

While Toshiba might not be jumping into the Blu-ray fray anytime soon, at least some of the companies that supported HD DVD have made the switch. We last saw Integra promoting a high-def optical disc player (of the HD DVD variety) around this time last year; fast forward to now, and it’s delivering its first Blu-ray model. Integra’s first entry into Blu-ray is the DBS-6.9 Blu-ray player. It features BonusView…

Rachel Cericola • 03:53 PM,

Logitech keeps cranking out those Harmony remotes. This time, they’ve quietly started selling the Harmony 510, which is parked nicely beneath the $100 mark. CNET says the unit is an awful lot like the Harmony 550, except it’s got a different color scheme and has a few less keys—two to be exact. The 550 costs an extra $30, which means those two keys are valued at $15 each. Logitech says…

RealNetworks Banned from Selling RealDVD
Rachel Cericola • 11:06 AM,

Well that was certainly quick. Less than a week ago, RealNetworks announced its RealDVD DVD-ripping software. About 24 hours later, they received news that six movie studios were suing to stop those software sales. The studios have won, it seems—at least temporarily. According to Electronista, a judge has put a temporary ban on sales of RealDVD, until they can figure things out. Apparently, that will take at least until Tuesday,…

Study Expects Home Control to Go Mainstream

You may already be receiving the “triple play” type of bundles from your cable company. Are you ready to turn a “quintuple play” though? Home automation and security systems will be booming over the next five years, according to a new study from ABI Research. Much of the boom will come from two areas—more mainstream systems based on standardized, packaged technologies; and managed automation services that will likely be offered…

Blu-ray to Become Bigger & Better?
Rachel Cericola • 10:02 AM,
1 Comment
Blu-ray fans may soon be treated to bigger and better discs. Well, by soon, we mean in the next few years. Sanyo says that they’ve developed a new blue laser diode that could double the capacity of Blu-ray media. PC World says that the new diode can emit a beam of 450 milliwatts, which could write and read up to four layers at speeds of 12X. In case you are…

SpeakerCraft Announces NEAT In-Ceiling Speaker
Rachel Cericola • 09:15 AM,

Look up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a light, it’s—a speaker? SpeakerCraft just announced its super-small NEAT 3 in-walls, which are designed to look just like the miniature can of a light. I would probably rather look at a speaker than a light, but the idea is that the unit only takes up a small amount of space, while blending nicely into any background. “Looking at the popularity…
