You might not be able to have hair like Captain Kirk, but you can apparently have his chair—at least something like it, anyway. Diamond Select Toys will soon offer a replica chair for over the $1,000 mark. At that price, you might be able to fill a theater full of them—and if you do, let me know. There’s an article in there somewhere! Gizmodo says it’s too bad they didn’t…

Axiom Adds T2 In-Walls
Rachel Cericola • 11:33 AM,
0 Comments
This T2 has nothing to do with cyborgs or a very buff Linda Hamilton. Instead, it’s Axiom’s answer to a clean looking low-profile TV setup. Designed to disappear into the wall, these units are perfect for left- and right-channel placement. Measuring 11.65 by 6.4 inches, each speaker rises a mere 5/8 of an inch about the wall surface—an all-time low for any of Axiom’s in-walls. “Whether mounted on the wall,…

Rachel Cericola • 10:48 AM,

We’re not entirely sure if Kensington’s Wireless USB Docking Station is the first USB hub to go wireless. However, it does deliver on claims (via MarketWatch) that it’s USB-IF certified, and can deliver speakers, printers, keyboards, and other peripherals, all without having to connect and disconnect devices after each use. Connect the unit to any notebook that supports Wireless USB. It has five USB ports, a DVI-I and a speaker…

Arlen Schweiger • 10:19 AM,

Video projection is starting to offer the same type of affordability as flat panels these days, especially when it comes to some of the latest 1080p units—companies such as Epson and Panasonic have been able to go sub-$3,000 for 1080p products that have been well received. Though we haven’t heard about pricing yet, Sanyo has what it’s deeming an “entry-level” 1800p projector due out in October, the PLV-Z700 LCD model…

How to make your iPod speaker stand out above the rest? Offer the grille in tasty colors such as caramel, chocolat, olive and chili pepper. Boston Acoustics’ Horizon i-DS2 has grilles available in colors outside of the major food groups, too. Aside from that, it’s not much different from any of the other iPod dock/speaker sets. The unit promises to fill the room with all of your music, via a…

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has given its six-months-out checkup on the digital transition, and it’s saying that things are AOK with the DTV move. The analog switch off date is February 17, 2009, as a reminder to those who use over-the-air service for their television viewing. Last month, one study reported that 64 percent who do the free TV thing were ready for the transition. CEA president and CEO…

Rachel Cericola • 05:00 PM,

Your geekdom could be your ticket into reality TV. No, we’re not talking about ”Beauty and the Geek” (which is cancelled, by the way). Producers of ABC’s “Wife Swap” are looking for families with plenty of personality—as well as their share of high-tech goodies. The producers say they want to cast someone with a smart house. Now, they weren’t specific on what they want or what they are going to…

You’ve heard of motorized screens that drop down from the ceiling or a mount. You’ve heard of plasma screens that pop up out of custom cabinets or bed footboards. Combine the concepts and you’ve got the Raptor projection screen from Elite Screens. The screen, which comes in sizes of 72, 84 or 100 diagonal inches and 16:9 aspect ratio, is an electric floor-rising screen that stays hidden in a typical…
