Amina Technologies Evolution Series Invisible Speakers

The Evolution Series Invisible Speaker from Amina Technologies is the next generation of high fidelity in-wall/in-ceiling loudspeaker designed to provide incredibly realistic sound while being completely invisible. Installation is a simple as replacing a section of wallboard in a wall or ceiling, mounting the loudspeaker panel, and applying a full skim coat of standard drywall compound or plaster. The surface is then painted or wallpapered, leaving a high quality wall or ceiling surface ready for decoration. The first model in the new Evolution Series is the AIW350E, which improves upon the extremely linear frequency response of previous Amina invisible speakers, and is flat right up to 20 KHz, with a +/-3dB response from 110-19Khz. The product uniquely utilizes a small displacement, large surface area, vibrational soundboard to create an extremely smooth, omni-directional sound throughout the speaker’s range no matter where the listeners is positioned in relation to the speaker’s orientation in the room. Further, the new Evolution Series speaker extends low frequency reproduction below 70 Hz. The Evolution Series speakers feature a light weight, powder coated aluminum chassis that fully braces and supports two high-power neodymium drivers which set up vibrations on an optimized thin composite panel. This proprietary panel is composed of an aluminum honeycomb core with paper based skins that uniquely allow plaster compounds to bind to the surface. Extended development and modelling of two different rare earth magnet excitor units allowed Amina to implement its innovative new Optidrive® technology which optimally distributes the audio signal to the panel speaker’s exciters to ensure exceptional high frequency clarity. At the same time, new OptiDamping® technology delivers increased low frequency extension and improved midrange accuracy by selectively tuning the loudspeaker’s acoustic panel.

Building on the best-in-class AIW Series, which is widely recognized as the best sounding invisible speaker on the market, the new Evolution Series presents an even smoother frequency response and improved low and high frequency extension. The AIW350E achieves high sensitivity with high frequencies that are crisp and prominent with a clarity and quality found normally in high end audiophile tweeters. At the same time it generates smooth low frequencies and highly accurate mid frequencies with a tonal balance allowing highly articulate reproduction with limited compression at high listening levels, and without experiencing any narrowing of dispersion. Aesthetically, the Amina AIW350 is designed specifically to have a full skim coat or plaster or mud over its entire surface, not feathered in around the edge like invisible speaker products. Having to feather edges presents two problems. First, it takes considerable skill to properly feather edges. And second, feathering makes the edges around the speakers susceptible to cracking. With Evolution series, only basic paint/drywall skills are required to install the speakers, and having a full skim coat helps achieve a quick, ultra high quality flat wall or ceiling finish that’s ready to paint or wallpaper and won’t crack. The lightweight AIW350E thrives in both new construction and retrofit. The speaker is mounted to the wallboard directly, not to stud work, which further shortens the installation time and reduces acoustic transmission to the structure of the building.

Benefits

The AIW350’s extended frequency range means no additional items (i.e. subwoofer) are required for high fidelity audio reproduction, which is highly dynamic even at loud volume levels. The incredibly even polar response and wide dispersion means comparatively fewer speakers are required for a given space. It typically takes two to four conventional speakers to provide the same sound coverage as a single Amina Evolution Series speaker. Further benefits include a simple retrofit installation process. There is no requirement to attach to studwork, and due its light weight, the Evolution Series is simply mounted directly to drywall. Installation time is dramatically reduced as there is no need to create studs of precisely the correct width. Acoustic transmission through the structure of the building is equally dramatically reduced. This allows installation to happen later in the build process, thus reducing the risk of damage by other trades. Also, by mounting directly to the drywall, the speakers are easily mounted perfectly flush with surface of the wallboard, allowing a precision surface finish with minimal effort. The unique small displacement vibrational surface technique achieves a no crack, never crack solution, while the full skim coat achieves an ultra high quality wall surface quality with resulting “never to be seen” technology.
