The seeds of DigitalMedia® were planted nearly five years ago, when Crestron engineers began pioneering a new high-definition technology that had never been undertaken: to transmit both uncompressed HD digital video and analog signals long distances over one wire. With the digital age on the horizon and the analog sunset quickly approaching, the original specification was to transmit any mix of analog and digital AV signals several hundred feet over a standard CAT5e cable. No extenders or repeaters would be allowed in the design as they would slow data communication and complicate installation. This new technology also addressed issues with HDMI signal distribution, including management of HDCP content protection, CEC device control and EDID resolution management. Multiple pre-terminated HDMI cables would be replaced with inexpensive bulk CAT5 cabling. Now, with thousands of successful installations and hundreds of thousands of fully-tested connection points behind it, Crestron is shipping DigitalMedia 8G+®, our third generation of DigitalMedia technology, while others are still working on their first attempt. Designed for any size home and budget, DigitalMedia® 6X6 Distribution Center offers an affordable solution for distributing all digital and analog audio/video content through the whole home, over a single CAT5e wire. DM-MD6X6 accepts, manages and distributes virtually any signal type, plus control, Ethernet, and more up to 330' using a single standard CAT5e cable.DM-MD6X6 distributes all analog and pure high-definition digital content including 1080p with Deep Color, 3D high-definition video, control, data, and Ethernet without any need for compression/repeaters. Six HDMI inputs handle HDTV receivers, DVD/Blu-ray players, media servers, computers, and other sources. Outputs include one HDMI and five DigitalMedia ports to provide one-wire connectivity for a local display/audio processor and five additional displays throughout the house. By distributing any mix of analog and uncompressed HD digital signals long distances using your existing CAT5e cabling, DM-MD6X6 enables fast, reliable installations, greater design flexibility and substantially reduced cabling requirements. No need to rewire. Distances up to 330' enable streamlined, multi-room digital entertainment systems in any home. Additionally, integrated Ethernet and USB HID distribution allows computers, media servers, and video game consoles to be installed out-of-sight, accessed from anywhere in the house and enjoyed from any room, any time. Installer-friendly setup and diagnostic software simplify the configuration/commissioning of multi-room DigitalMedia 8G+ systems. From the front panel or using DM Tools software, the system automatically configures the best resolutions of sources/displays for optimal viewing. All points of error and bottlenecks are accurately identified for easy resolution, while the proper number of HDCP authentication keys is determined. An entire DM-MD6X6system can be commissioned in as little as 15 minutes.
