LG Electronics 55EA9800 Curved OLED
There are two key innovations that make LG’s 55EA9800 unique and the benchmark for TVs to come — WRGB OLED technology and the distinctive curved aesthetic. In an effort to realize the best possible picture quality, LG employed its proprietary WRGB OLED or technology, which utilizes a white sub-pixel to significantly improve color consistency, brightness and panel longevity. Each pixel is capable of displaying 8 million colors. Because OLED is an emissive technology, each pixel can turn completely on and off, for incredible black levels and an infinite contrast ratio. The result for consumers is that they enjoy the deepest blacks and optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle. Combine all of these with Full HD 1080p picture and its picture is amongst the best of any TV ever made. In fact, it’s the first OLED display in the world to achieve THX Display Certification. In addition to picture quality, the LG OLED TV’s aesthetic design is also meant to improve the viewing experience. The OLED features LG’s CINEMA Screen, which limits the bezel to just millimeters, giving the TV an even more streamlined, modern look and edge-to-edge appearance when the TV is on. Additionally, the 55EA9800 the ever-so-subtle curved design looks wider and delivers a more realistic experience free of image distortion, regardless of where you look. LG spent more than five years researching the optimal curvature for the best experience and that’s what you see here, bringing an IMAX-like viewing experience to the home.

There are other OLED TVs, but what makes LG’s unique is its proprietary WRGB technology, a four-color pixel system that includes an unfiltered, white sub-pixel that has been added to the traditional red, green and blue spectrum to create a wider range of colors for more true-to-life accuracy. A testament to its excellence, The E55EA9800 is the world’s first OLED TV to achieve THX Display Certification. One of the advantages OLED technology provides is the design flexibility it affords. At only 0.17 inches or just 4.3 millimeters at its thinnest, the screen is pencil-thin. And the set is incredibly light, weighing in at less than 38 pounds. With a subtle concaved curve, it is truly an aesthetic statement for any living room. The TV also incorporates LG’s Smart TV interface which gives access to virtually unlimited content from popular providers such as NetFlix, YouTube, Vudu and many more. Consumers can navigate the entire TV’s interface and Smart TV with Magic Remote, which uses Bluetooth and RF to give consumers a number of intuitive ways to control the TV, such as voice recognition and point-and-click capability. The Smart TV also provides a number of additional connectivity options via LG SmartShare, simplifying the process of accessing content from other devices, such as tablets and smartphones. DLNA, WiDi, Miracast, MHL and 2nd Display connectivity allow for an array of streaming and sharing possibilities. Lastly, the 55EA9800 features LG’s CINEMA 3D system which uses lightweight, comfortable, battery-free glasses. Unlike active shutter-glass systems, Cinema 3D provides a realistic 3D image which is more comfortable to watch.
The main benefit and ultimate goal for any TV is excellent picture quality, which OLED exemplifies above all. This WRGB technology is proprietary to LG and delivers astoundingly vivid and realistic images. Using self-lighting pixel technology, the has an almost immeasurable or “infinite” contrast ratio, meaning it displays deep colors from blazing white to the darkest black. To ensure consumers can get the most from the TV’s capabilities in their specific environment, it features the Image Science Foundation customized calibration configuration (ISFccc). As a result of LG’s efforts the 55EA9800 was the first OLED TV is the first to earn the distinction of THX Display Certification. Beyond that, three international testing and certification bodies, TV Rheinland, Intertek and VDE, have all recognized LG’s Curved OLED TV for its superb picture quality. LG also made major efforts in the overall user experience as well. In addition to navigating all aspects of the TV’s interface, the Magic Remote offers Universal Remote so integrators can set up set-top box control including accessing “On Demand” menus, setting DVR recordings, viewing the program guide, or perform simple tasks like changing the channel and checking program info.
