Beautiful Music … and Movies

Accoutered with lush red velvet drapes and gold tassels along the wall, it may be the interior décor that makes a grand first impression, but it’s the materials and equipment that performs flawlessly in the background that makes this theater a masterpiece in acoustical production. In fact, the audio is so good, the owners often use the theater as a place to enjoy music…without any video on the 115-inch Stewart Filmscreen screen at all. When the owners fire up the McIntosh audio system, via a Crestron WiFi touchpanel, the “invisible” Bowers & Wilkins speakers magically appear. Situated behind the acoustically perforated screen, they can’t be seen but can definitely be heard while movies are being presented, but when the lights behind the screen are activated, the speakers become visible through the screen fabric. Although audio (both visually and audibly) presides in this music listening mode, none of the sound interferes with other areas of the house, thanks to soundproofing materials installed by the home theater designers at Gramophone, Timonium, Md. Special drywall and back boxes for the in-wall speakers ensure that the movie audio is contained. And when it’s movie time, a Oppo Blu-ray player and Digital Projection International projector make sure the projection screen steals the limelight.
