On a Mission

The audio and video equipment in this home theater may be modern, but the design is decidedly Mission style, proving that technology can mesh nicely with just about any decor or architecture. Strategically designed LED lighting—all 230 feet of it−showcases the theme of this home theater, illuminating the slated ceiling, decorative glass, archways and other elements, while creating a comfortable environment for the owners to enjoy a movie on a 110-inch Dragonfly screen. Video is supplied by a Samsung 3D Blu-ray player and passed onto the screen by a JVC 4K upscaling video projector. For the sound, “we always favor the delicate sound of BG Radia’s ribbon tweeters,” says Mike Fox from Fox A/V, a home theater design firm in Springfield, Ill., and in this theater he and his team incorporated nine of them. Two 12-inch Sunfire subwoofers complete the surround-sound arrangement. To control the A/V system, plus the lights, Fox A/V installed a Control4 HC250 controller, which relays signals from a handheld Control4 remote to the appropriate pieces of equipment. All told, it took Fox A/V 240 hours to finish the room and install the gear.
