After: Rack Attack

Home Theater of Long Island came into this home and replaced the existing network and the surveillance system. They also upgraded and integrated the lighting, shading and HVAC. The installation had its challenges, starting with the equipment room. The three racks covered one media room, seven zones of video, 16 zones of audio, a lighting system with 88 loads, 44 automated shades, 12 zones of HVAC, and two spots for surveillance. Of course, the company could handle all of the equipment, but the rack room could not. It was a total mess. The cleanup process included upgrading video from component to HDMI, installing video distribution over HDBaseT, creating six virtual camera locations, putting in better ventilation, and more. They even reduced the number of racks to just one—with a sub-rack used for the home’s various cable boxes.
