CES: Vizio Prices Blu-ray Player Under $200
Rachel Cericola • 09:42 PM,

There was a slew of sub-$200 Blu-ray deals around the holidays. Now that the shopping storm has calmed, those kinds of hardware bargains are a lot harder to come by—until now. Vizio is throwing its hat into the Blu-ray ring, and they are giving it the inexpensive spin that has made them a serious competitor in the CE marketplace. The new VBR100 will run $199.99—everyday. The unit has a 108MHz/11-bit…

One of the biggest hassles to putting together your 5.1- or 7.1-channel surround-sound system is all that wiring from the speakers back to the source components. Wanna get it done without the wiring? Here’s where you begin to get skeptical when we start mentioning wireless solutions—what about sound quality? Signal loss? Interference? Who better than the folks at THX to put their stamp on what promises to be a bulletproof…

CES: Logic Wireless Puts Projector into Phone
Rachel Cericola • 03:45 PM,

There are a lot of products we’d love to see combine into one. TV/popcorn maker? Check. Web-enabled massage chair? Absolutely. Fax machine/meat slicer? Well, maybe not. However, there was one combo that we didn’t even think of: the projector/phone. Logic Wireless did, and they call it the Bolt. The unit is sort of like carrying a big screen in your pocket… one that can make and take calls. Logic says…

Disney to Bundle Blu-ray & DVD
Rachel Cericola • 02:40 PM,
1 Comment
The one thing we miss about the days of HD DVD is the combo disc. It was nice to pop “The Bourne Ultimatum” into one player, and then also enjoy it on the go. Disney wants you to be able to have that same kind of freedom, so they are releasing select 2009 Blu-ray titles with the added bonus of standard-def. There is no combo disc; it’s a combo pack,…

Unleash the power of your digital music library and free it from your computer. Sure, you say, but where to route it all, and doesn’t that mean a whole bunch of wires to do so? No worries, says Cisco, all you need is any combination of the company’s new Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio family of products, which were unveiled at CES 2009. Ideally, you’ll let Linksys aggregate your…

Rachel Cericola • 01:28 PM,

Despite your cramped A/V cabinet, the idea of another set-top never seems to lose luster—at least when it’s packing web capabilities. Netgear announced two new Internet-enabled set-tops today. We had recently heard a few rumblings about the EVA9150; they also added the ITV2000. “Internet video consumption is at an all-time high,” said Vivek Pathela, Netgear’s VP and general manager of home/consumer products. “Just in the month of October 2008 alone,…
