As of February 1, 2016, the EH Network will no longer be producing monthly digital issues or quarterly print issues. We will soon be changing the focus of our site to bring you more cool homes. You have told us how much you love our Home of The Year, so we are going to increase the number of homes and showcase Homes of the Week.

By May, Electronichouse.com will highlight the work custom installers are doing for customers like you. If you have any questions please email [email protected]

5 World Class Theme Theaters

Electronic House January 2016

The interior of every home follows a certain style, be it traditional, minimalistic, or contemporary. It’s based on your personal tastes and preferences, and usually pervades every room of your house. A home theater is where your chosen decorating scheme can take a breather. In a room dedicated to high-caliber entertainment, which is usually set apart from the rest of the house, you can depart from the norm and express a completely different attitude. The owners of these five theaters embraced this stylistic opportunity, creating unique entertainment destinations packed with personality and A/V punch. You’ll see how one owner infused bits of Harley-Davidson into his home theater, while another used color and texture to embody his spiritual side. There are two Disney-themed theaters, too, as well as a room that was fashioned after the owner’s favorite brand of audio equipment. As these five theaters prove so beautifully, anything goes when designing a room dedicated to your entertainment pursuits—as long as you’ve got the right equipment. Read More

Electronic House February 2016 Issue

Home technology is not all about, well, technology. Likewise, there’s more to having a smart home than adding smarts to it. In most cases, a huge dose of creativity is an equally important facet to successful product development and the satisfying implementation of smart systems into a home. Without some amount of imagination, innovation could never happen, and homes across the nation would be forever stuck in a time warp. Thankfully, this sad state of affairs is unlikely to happen, as proven by football fields of imaginative smart home products and systems exhibited recently at the International Consumer Electronics Show. As an editor who’s covered this massive electronics show for nearly two decades, the level of ingenuity and imagination on tap at this year’s show was remarkable. The Internet of Things (IoT) movement is propelling full steam ahead into the hearts and minds of consumers. Just about any household device you can think of can now connect to and be managed and controlled from the Internet. Manufacturers are leveraging consumers’ obsession with IoT by thinking way outside the box to develop some truly unique products. And although unique, they provide some real practical benefits without breaking the bank. Check out some of my favorite IoT smart home products sighted at CES. My fave: an automated showerhead.
