NBA commissioner David Stern canceled games through Nov. 30, though it was unlikely those games would have been played anyway. The impasse came just one day after both sides expressed optimism they were close to an agreement that could save the league’s 2011-12 season.
Oh well, maybe in time for the Christmas holiday season?
Owners are insistent on a 50-50 split of basketball-related income. Players have proposed reducing their guarantee from 57 percent down to 52.5, saying that will transfer more than $1.5 billion to owners over six years.
“As expected, the NBA lowered its lockout hammer Monday on Micky Arison for offering opinions on the ongoing work stoppage on his Twitter account last Friday. NBA spokesman Tim Frank confirmed to the Sun Sentinel that the league has fined the Miami Heat owner. Yahoo reported the sanction was $500,000.”
Does anyone not think 500 million is a lot of money? I wonder if Micky Arison even cares that much since he probably already knew the consequences.
Freakin lame the NBA has become. Ever since MJ left it just hasn’t been the same. If Kobe wasn’t such a prick then he could have been NBA’s savior. MJ set the bar for oncourt attitude, grace and behavior. Kobe is a killer and acts like it.
Right now, we’ve been given the ultimatum, and our answer is that’s not acceptable to us,” union president said.
This is not a good sign. There needs to be some intervention or else the season will be lost. The NBA, as like most entertainment industries, can impact many sectors of the American economy. I mean, does anybody really want a Kevin Durant jersey if he’s not even playing?
Crazy stuff man. I mean what is it really going to take to salvage the season. They’ve already got mediators involved. The NBA is really in danger of damaging their fan base. It’s not like the NFL where so many games are nationally televised. You have to have cable to watch a lot of games.
Although a skillful flatterer is a most delightful companion if you have him all to yourself, his taste becomes very doubtful when he takes to complimenting other people.
It looks like the tide has finally shifted. The pro basketball league is allowing teams to host workouts starting Thursday. It’s time for these players to knock some dust off their shoes and get rid of some rust. Lots of great team matchups on the way for us fans so really looking forward to it.
That’s great news man. Can’t wait to see my favorite player Kevin Durant on the hardcourts again. Let’s get our NBA players back from overseas and play some real, meaningful basketball.
The NBA has added Miami at Dallas to the Christmas day opener. I think this will be ok, but the team s will show some basketball rust for sure. It’ll be so nice to basketball though because by the time the football seasons run out, there’ll be nothing to watch! :)
Season is not lost. And as the agreement is signed for something like 10 years, if I’m not mistaken, then we may not expect such troubles in the foreseeable future.
