VIZIO just announced a giant 4K TV—with a giant price tag to match.
However, the hook on the VIZIO Reference Series is that these are 4K TVs that have Dolby Vision. This is a High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, which promises contrast, colors, and detail like you’ve never seen before.
Of course, you’ve never seen it before because the content isn’t readily available. VIZIO is looking to change that. To test out those Dolby Vision perks, each set comes with access to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision mastered titles through VUDU. The lineup includes titles such as The Lego Movie, Man of Steel, San Andreas, Mad Max: Fury Road, and more. Additional Dolby Vision titles will also be coming soon through Netflix.
The VIZIO Reference Series is available in a 65-inch model, but an eye-popping 120-incher is the one that few will be able to afford.
To make the 65-inch model more enticing, the company has included a quantum dot panel, as well as a 10-inch wireless subwoofer and two rear satellite speakers. Both 4K TVs have the Ultra Color Spectrum for a wider color gamut, an 800-nit, Full-Array LED backlight, and 384 Active LED Zones.
Other features include 802.11ac dual-band WiFi, the VIZIO V6 six-core processor, support for the HEVC H.265 codec, the Spatial Scaling Engine, and the VIZIO Internet Apps Plus smart TV platform.
“VIZIO and Dolby have worked tirelessly together to make true High Dynamic Range a reality for consumers. The picture quality achieved with Dolby Vision on the VIZIO Reference Series is literally jaw-dropping and establishes a new level of excellence for the industry,” said Matt McRae, chief technology officer of VIZIO. “High Dynamic Range and Ultra Color Spectrum is enabled through proprietary, custom panel technologies creating a television that pushes the limits of contrast ratios and color gamut while redefining the level of picture quality available at home. VIZIO worked closely with partners like Dolby, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, VUDU and Netflix to ensure content was re-mastered to take advantage of the Reference Series’ capabilities and ready to stream through VIZIO Internet Apps Plus.”
VIZIO is now taking orders for the 65-inch RS65-B2 and the 120-inch RS120-B3. These sets are listed at $5,999.99 and $129,999.99, respectively.
