At the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (International CES), there were several companies showing off 4K Ultra HD TVs, with some even enticing a few extra eyeballs with the use of Quantum Dot. The new TV buzz term promises even brighter colors, better details and an energy-efficient package. How is that even possible? You can thank “quantum dots,” tiny nanocrystals that are used to produce the light.
However, you won’t have to pay a hefty price for this technology—at least, not if you opt for the model from TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings Limited (TCL). The company was showing off the H9700 Quantum Dot TV, a 55-inch 4K TV that launched in China last December.
Besides a 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, this TV features an audio system made by Harman Kardon, as well as a smart TV system that’s compatible with Android and Linux platforms.
“Our Quantum Dot TV H9700 has been extremely well-received by consumers in China, and we look forward to making it available to a broader market this spring,” said E. Hao, CEO of TCL Multimedia. “When you deliver a high-end product at an affordable price, the market responds.”
So yes, TCL plans to launch the same set in Europe and the U.S. at an affordable price. Of course, we’re not sure what that price will be just yet, but it should be well below what LG and Samsung will be asking—although those prices have yet to be announced as well. Stay tuned.
