After months of waiting, the latest and greatest Sony Ultra HD 4K TVs are now available. At least, some of them are now available.
The company has started taking pre-orders on the Sony X900C Series in two screen sizes, with plans to ship those at the beginning of July. A lone X910C 4K TV will follow later this summer. These two entries are part of Sony’s 2015 Ultra HD 4K TV lineup, which includes a total of six different models.
Both the Sony X900C and the X910C feature the type of image you can only get with 4K TVs—the kind that’s four times the resolution of a full 1080p HDTV. Each one is also surprisingly slim, with the X900C measuring a mere 0.2 inches thin. Those sleek enclosures pack in the X1 processor engine for better contrast, color and clarity, as well as the X-Reality Pro Picture Engine for upscaling HD content and TRILUMINOS display technology for a wider color range.
And because both the Sony X900C and X910C are so thin, you can actually concentrate on the picture, as well as mount each set flush to your wall.
Besides the image (inside and out), the big hook on these 4K TVs is the included smart TV platform, which is powered by Android TV. So in addition to your usual Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, Hulu, CBS News, CBS Sports, Crackle, NBA Game Time, Pandora and SlingTV, you can use that big screen to tap into pretty much anything else you can imagine via the Google Play Store. Each set also has voice search capabilities and PlayStation Now gaming without the need for a console. If you prefer to do your searching on a different device, know that these TVs include Google Cast, so you can actually “cast” content from Android or iOS devices, Mac or Windows computers or a Chromebook right to the TV.
The Sony X900C Series includes the 55-inch XBR-55X900C ($2,499) and the 65-inch XBR-65X900C ($3,999). The: X910C Series is launching with the: 75-inch XBR-75X910C ($5,499).
