Every year, manufacturers show off tons of TVs at CES. This year’s show was no different. One of the companies that had a slew of TVs was Samsung, who came to CES 2015 with a bevy of UHD and SUHD TVs. Yes, they even made a new category for a few select 4K Ultra HD TVs.
Now, the company is ready to release the most important tidbits about its 2015 line—mainly when we can get our sweaty hands on them and for how much.
Before we get into those details, know that this year’s lineup will include both curved and flat 4K TVs, both in UHD and SUHD. The difference between the two is that the SUHD lineup has Samsung’s proprietary Cadmium-free nano-crystal technology, which promises to boost those 4K images even more.
All of the models also feature the new Tizen smart TV platform, powered by an OctaCore processor. Besides providing access to all sorts of popular streaming content, this option has a user-friendly interface and Quick Connect for incorporating select mobile devices for a second-screen experience.
At the top of the 2015 lineup is Samsung’s JS9500 Curved SUHD TV. Besides the 4K images and aforementioned nano-crystal technology, the JS9500 has full array local-dimming LED backlight, Auto Depth Enhancer for automatically adjusting contrast, and PurColor technology for reproducing colors to show what filmmakers and content creators originally envisioned. Another interesting perk on this model is the One Connect Box, which houses all of the “brains” of the TV inside a separate box—one that can be switched out when new standards come up. Also, since these are curved 4K TVs, each one boasts a more immersive viewing experience, since that screen practically wraps you up in eye-popping 4K goodness! Available now, the JS9500 has a starting price of $6,499.99.
Another curved SUHD TV option is the JS9100. Available next month as a lone 78-inch model, the JS9100 has Peak Illuminator Pro technology, which increases LED illumination behind select areas of the display to make the picture really pop. Other features include the Tizen-based smart TV platform, UHD upscaling, and an MSRP of $9,999.99.
The last of the curved SUHD TV models falls under the JS9000 series. Available in 48- ($3,499.99), 55- ($3,999.99), and 65-inch ($4,999.99) models, the JS9000 has the nano-crystal technology, Precision Black for better darkness levels, and Peak Illuminator Pro. All three sets also feature a “Shirring” design, so that each TV looks like a piece of art, whether it’s mounted to the wall or on a stand.
The only flat SUHD model for this year (so far) is the JS8500. Both of these 4K TVs have the 4K imagery, the Precision Black and the smart TV platform, but without the curved screen. Available now, the JS8500 series features 55- and 65-inch screen sizes for $2,999.99 and $3,999.99, respectively.
Samsung will also offer two curved models of 4K TVs this year (without the extra “S”). The JU6700 series includes a 4K UHD resolution, PurColor for a color boost, and the Tizen smart TV platform. The four models are expected sometime this spring, in 40- ($949.99), 48- ($1,149.99), 55- ($1,499.99), and 65-inch ($2,699.99) screen sizes. The JU7500 series has the same 4K image and UHD upscaling technology. Also available this spring, this lineup will come in 40- ($1,399.99), 48- ($1,599.99), 55- ($1,999.99), 65- ($2,999.99), and 78-inch ($5,999.99) screen sizes.
And finally, Samsung will also release a few flat UHD TVs under its JU7100 lineup. This model includes 4K imagery, smart TV features, and Samsung’s Peak Illuminator and UHD Dimming for deep blacks and white whites. Available this month, the JU7100 lineup includes a 40-incher ($1,399.99), as well as 50- ($1,499.99), 55- ($1,799.99), 60- ($2,499.99), 65- ($2,999.99), and 75-inch ($4,999.99) models.
