Are you still mixing white and dark colors? You may not be all that smart with your laundry. Thankfully, Whirlpool is smart about your laundry — and your refrigeration and your dishes. The company just announced plans to slowly roll out new smart appliances that feature 6th Sense Live technology.
The launch will put several new connected appliances into the marketplace. The new line won’t do the fluff and fold, but it can make some of your chores slightly more efficient. The new line will include a smart washer and dryer, a smart refrigerator and a smart dishwasher.
Each one of these appliances will be networked, so that users can monitor each one or tap into functions via a companion app. Each one also has options for Smart Assistant features like Vacation Assistant, Remote Start/Pause, and alerts or text messages. Other features include the ability to monitor cycle status and even energy rates and consumption.
Available in monochromatic stainless steel, the Whirlpool Smart Side-by-Side Refrigerator with 6th Sense Live technology (model WRL767SIAM) will have an MSRP of $1,999. To match that piece, the Smart Dishwasher with 6th Sense Live technology (WDL785SAAM) will also have a stainless steel color and an MSRP of $949. Pricing and colors have yet to be announced for the Smart Front Load Washer and Electric Dryer with 6th Sense Live technology (WFL98HEB/WEL98HEB).
“Smart grid-enabled appliances have evolved into a broader conversation around the connected home and home management. Consumers want to connect to their homes in a meaningful way and benefit from functions that allow them to save energy and monitor their appliances even when away from home,” said Warwick Stirling, Whirlpool’s global director of sustainability. “As connectivity becomes more of a priority in our daily lives, seamless home management is what 6th Sense Live technology provides. We’re proud to provide our consumers with the peace of mind that they can manage daily, essential tasks from anywhere with ease.”
Whirlpool will launch its new line of smart appliances in the Chicago area later this month. The free mysmartappliances companion app is available now via the iTunes App Store.
