Sentri’s iPad-Style Device is Filled with Sensors and Security Options

The smart security device can deliver a 360-degree view of your home.

A company named Kronosight wants you to take a good look at its new Sentri system. It’s hard not to, actually — it’s so darn pretty!

Sentri is a new smart home device that looks a lot like an iPad, with a slight focus on security. I say “slight” because it promises motion detection and a 360-degree view of your home from anywhere in the world. However, it does so much more.

It actually lives up to that smart name, because it has the ability to learn your behaviors, preferences and home environment. When things like temperature, humidity, weather and air quality seem off, Sentri will let you know about it. Of course, it also has the security camera, which provides a peek from anywhere in the world and alerts when motion is detected.

Besides an HD video camera, the Sentri has night vision, a microphone and speaker, a built-in motion detector, an accelerometer, and sensors for temperature, air quality, light and humidity. It also comes pre-loaded with options to customize the screen however you want, including the option to stream photos from your Instagram feed.

Sentri is ready to use out of the box, with no monthly service fees. Just plug it in, connect it to your Wi-Fi network, and you’re ready to go. And when you do go, there’s a free Sentri app for monitoring the device from a smartphone or tablet.

“With Sentri, we wanted to build a truly smart device — one that continuously learned and could also grow with you and your home to deliver actionable information to you before you even realized you needed it,” said Yen Tung, CEO and co-founder of Kronosight. “We hope that Sentri will not only be a smarter view into our homes, but also empower smarter decisions that result in more secure and energy-efficient homes.”

Like a lot of smart home devices these days, Sentri is launching on Kickstarter. At last peek, the campaign had passed its goal, with over $313,000 in pledges. The early bird $199 price has been gone for a while, but a pledge of $249 before the July 11 deadline will get you the Sentri Classic when products start shipping in May 2015.
