Consumers who want to give it a try can start with a Schlage LiNK Starter kit consisting of a wireless keypad lock or deadbolt and a remote control lighting module. The Z-Wave-based system can control other products like IP cameras and thermostats.

“Having Android in the mix means owners of the three most popular phones will be able to receive text messages when the kids get home from school, monitor live camera feeds on their phones and even reduce heating bills by adjusting their home temperature from almost anywhere,” said Dwight Gibson, vice president and general manager, Connected Home Solutions for Ingersoll Rand, the parent company of Schlage.

Android users can get the app here.
