Savant Systems has snagged a lot of headlines over the years for its ROSIE and PROTEGE products. Now comes word that the company is getting rid of them, in favor of a new platform titled SmartSystems.

SmartSystems is a new family of Apple-based control and audio/video distribution products. The expandable line is designed to control everything from lighting to A/V to home control, and more — in home or commercial settings.

The system comprises many different components. The SmartControl SSC-0007 and SSC-0025 control-only devices combine some of the most popular control formats. Designed for both small and large installs, each model fits into a compact 1U half rack-style enclosure. The SSC-0007 has six IR ports, one RS-232 serial port, and one Ethernet jack. The SSC-0025 ups the amount of RS-232 connections to eight, and adds in three relay ports and seven general purpose IO (GPIO) ports.

Savant’s SmartAudio SSA-3000 can do both multi-room audio and whole-house control. Designed to fit in a 2U enclosure, the system boasts stereo preamp processing, including independent control of volume, balance, bass, treble and mute. It can stream up to six audio sources in up to eight zones, with options to play the same or different content in each of those rooms simultaneously. The SmartAudio system can be controlled via an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, using Savant’s TrueControl app. It can also be paired with Savant’s 16-Channel Multi-Room Power Amplifier (AMP-1640).

On the video side, there’s the SmartVideo SSV-1000. This device provides one zone of Savant’s on-TV menu system TrueCommand, as well as video processing and scaling, video switching, and control options.

SmartMedia SSM-3100 can distribute any six audio sources to eight rooms or zones, as well as TrueCommand and control, in a 2U fanless chassis. Other features include video processing, scaling and de-interlacing and playback of up to four independent iTunes.

Last, but certainly not least, is SmartMediaPro. Designed for large, complex residential or commercial installations, this group includes a trio of single-solution high-bandwidth matrix switchers. The SSP-1200, SSP-2400, SSP3600 can all do high-capacity multizone audio and video processing, control and automation. They also have a modular and scalable design, making it easy to upgrade.

Savant has yet to announce pricing for any of the pieces of the SmartSystems line. The SmartVideo and SmartMedia Pro should be available soon, with the rest of the elements now shipping.
