Samsung Makes the Galaxy Remote-tastic

Starting today, customers can use an app to control select Samsung HDTVs.

Many of today’s smartphones and other handhelds are pulling double-duty in the home theater. Today, you can add Samsung’s Galaxy line to your list of controller options. The company just announced a new app that will turn the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone and Galaxy Tab into a TV remote for some of the company’s newer HDTVs.

Download the free app from the Android Market, and it will use your not-so-free Wi-Fi to tap into your TV. The app is compatible with many of Samsung’s 2010 models, including the C6500 LEDs and higher, C650 LCDs and up, and from the C6500 plasma series and beyond. It can also be used with select 2011 smart TVs.

App features include a 4-way directional pad and an on-screen QWERTY keyboard for TV functions, control settings, and hours of endless entertainment via Samsung’s HDTV apps.

Last year, the manufacturer launched a similar app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users. Android users can score one now, via the Android Market.
