It’s CEDIA week, which means that the custom installation world (and EH editors) will be buzzing with news about new products for the home. RTI is kicking off its corner of the event with news of the AD-8 eight-zone distributed audio system.

This box sort of makes something old new again, since it’s designed as an extension to RTI’s control systems. This allows your installer to add whole-house audio to that existing RTI setup.

Packing in both a matrix switching pre-amp and a built-in Cool Power class D amplifier, the AD-8 delivers 25 watts per channel and can be paired with RTI’s 16-channel CP-1650 audio amplifier for larger installs.

The AD-8 delivers audio switching, amplification, and distribution functions, while the RTI central processors and user interfaces manage the audio source control, user input, and status feedback. To get around all of those audio goodies, a homeowner can use one of RTI’s two-way-enabled control products to choose sources, adjust volume controls, flip through cover art and playlists, and much more.

“The AD-8 is the ultimate multiroom audio solution, providing a simple, low-cost way to distribute music from a number of audio sources throughout any residential or commercial installation,” said Pete Baker, RTI’s VP of sales and marketing. “Based on the success of the original AD-4 and the amount of interest the AD-8 has received since its release, we expect it to make a big splash at CEDIA and are very excited to have it shipping in time for the show.”

Featuring a compact, low-profile design, the AD-8 can be rack-mounted or left free standing. Other features include an open architecture for additional zones, as well as a mute features that can quiet the music down when a doorbell or phone rings.

The AD-8 is now available, with an MSRP of $1,799.
