Perceptive Automation Debuts Indigo 6 Mac Home Automation Server

The latest version of the company's Mac-based control software is now available.

Mac users, rejoice! Perceptive Automation has developed new home automation software, with the Mac fiend in mind. The company just started selling the Indigo 6, an update to the company’s home control and automation server for Mac OS X.

Indigo 6 allows users to monitor and control lights, appliances, thermostats, lawn sprinklers, and more. It supports control of Z-Wave, Insteon and X10 products, all by using a Mac. This type of compatibility makes it easy to mix and match a home system, using devices with those three technologies. Currently, the software also supports 40 different third-party plug-in-based devices.

The end result is an automation system without regard to protocol. That way, you can have your Philips Hue lights, Insteon motion sensors, X10 sprinklers, and more — all available via one easy-to-use interface. Perceptive is particularly quick to call out expanded Insteon use, which includes support for many of the tech’s newer products. That includes the new Leak Sensor, the Smoke Bridge, and the DIN Rail modules.

It also has new energy monitoring capabilities for whole-house use and individual lights. Other features include improved usability, context-sensitive menus, and better server security.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers a Mac-based home automation solution that supports many common Z-Wave devices,” said Matt Bendiksen, founder of Perceptive Automation. “Indigo’s support of Z-Wave and Insteon devices, along with the availability of dozens of powerful and robust 3rd party plugins tightly integrated into Indigo, make it a professional quality solution for both home automation do-it-yourselfers and commercial integrators worldwide.”

Designed to run on Mac OS X 10.5 or greater, the Indigo 6 is available now on the Perceptive Automation website. The Indigo 6 Pro is priced at $199.95, with the Indigo 6 Lite coming in at $99.95. If you have a previous version, an upgrade is available or you can check out the 30-day trial.
