In just a few short weeks, CES 2016 will be upon us. This is the biggest consumer electronics trade show of the year, where manufacturers launch all sorts of flashy new products for the upcoming: year. Nortek Security & Control LLC will come to the show with water solutions for the smart home that may not be: as eye-catching as a big 4K TV, but are certainly worthy of the spotlight.
The company is planning to show three GoControl products at the show. The GoControl Smart Irrigation Controller (pictured at the bottom), the GoControl Smart Flow Detector (pictured above), and the GoControl Smart Flood Detector can bring smart home control, convenience, and peace of mind to water applications all over: the Electronic House.
The GoControl Smart Irrigation Controller is a Z-Wave wireless irrigation controller. That means the system can wirelessly water your property, making sure to cover the right areas and deliver the right amount of water—without waste. Designed as a replacement for outdated, standard irrigation controllers, the GoControl Smart Irrigation Controller can support up to 15 zones and features local forecasted weather data that can automatically tweak schedules. Made to be paired with any Z-Wave hub, the GoControl Smart Irrigation Controller will sell for $139.95.
If you’re looking to receive water alerts, the GoControl Smart Flood Detector can deliver the goods. This device can detect water or an unusually high level of moisture and alert homeowners accordingly. This product also works with a Z-Wave hub to trigger smartphone alerts. It has a water-detecting probe that can be left out in the open or stuffed under the sink, dishwasher, refrigerator, or washing machine. Other features include a dual-position sensor that can be mounted vertically or horizontally and the ability to run on a single CR123 battery for up to two years. The GoControl Smart Flood Detector has been listed with an MSRP of $49.95.
The last product in the new lineup is the GoControl Smart Flow Detector. This solution can detect water leaks before they cause major damage. Just connect the detector: to a copper water pipe. From there, the device works in conjunction with any Z-Wave smart home hub to send alerts out to your smartphone in case of an emergency. Users can even set configurable notifications ranging from 10 to 240 minutes. At launch, the product is expected to sell for $149.95.
“Our new water solutions extend our smart home offerings and provide resource conservation, flood and leak warnings and protection from potential home damage—high priorities for consumers buying smart home products,” said Rob Halligan, group vice president of marketing for Nortek Security & Control. “The GoControl water solutions serve as a way to deliver important functionality to the smart home experience when added with other GoControl automation and security products.”
There’s no word on when Nortek Security & Control will start selling each of the above solutions. However, that info should be coming sometime after the products debut at CES 2016 next month.
