Jalousier Adds Automation to Any Window Blinds

The company is now running a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.

Manufacturers are slowly but surely turning all of your dumb stuff into smart stuff. The latest is Jalousier, a new company that’s looking to attach a tiny device to your window shades.

Of course, there are plenty of automated window treatments, but Jalousier can easily add automation to your existing shades. It’s also portable, so apparently, you can easily automate the shades in your hotel room or at a friend’s house.

All you have to do is clip Jalousier to your existing window blinds. From there, it works in conjunction with an app to adjust those shades based on the room’s temperature, lighting conditions, the changing weather, and even the time of day.

Jalousier has an app for both iOS and Android devices. Besides offering control through the app, the product can also read gestures from a smartphone and adjust the blinds accordingly. Although it’s very much a do-it-yourself product, Jalousier also has built-in Wi-Fi, ZigBee and an open API, so it can also be integrated with practically any existing control system.

Each Jalousier also comes with the CordBox, a cord retracting mechanism so that nothing is left hanging for kids and/or pets.

“It offers endless possibilities of customization, like syncing your blinds with an alarm clock, shared access with family, and getting a reminder to look outside to see a brilliant moon or even the first snowfall of the year,” Sergey Vinogradov, the head of the family team.

Jalousier just kicked off a campaign on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. The funds raised will be used for mass production of the product. To secure a Jalousier, you’ll need to pledge a minimum of $89. The company’s Indiegogo campaign will run through March 12, 2014. If all goes well, the first products will start shipping in October.
