Elan Debuts Smart Home Control Platform and 2 Controllers

The new Linux-based architecture promises a faster install, better device compatibility and easier operation.

Elan Home Systems is getting an upgrade. The company just announced the new Elan Control Platform, a Linux-based platform that promises better performance, easier installation, broader device compatibility, and greater scalability.

The new Elan v7 Platform is designed to expand Elan’s presence in the home automation market, as well as open up new opportunities in the “Internet of Things” realm.

The platform will allow Elan’s parent company, Core Brands, to incorporate more of its other brands into a smart home setup. The company owns a lot of familiar brands, such as SpeakerCraft, Niles, Sunfire, Panamax, Furman, Xantech, and more. In other words, the new platform will be able to touch a lot of things in the connected home, including speakers, multiroom audio, power conditioners, smart-plugs, cameras, gates, garage door openers, and more.

The new controllers include Wi-Fi which can be used to connect to Internet of Things devices. Zigbee and Z-Wave wireless compatibility can be added with additional antennas. Another key benefit is that they can be powered over Ethernet (PoE), drawing less than 4W and 5W respectively.

To help usher out the new platform, Elan is introducing two new controllers, the gSC2 and the gSC10. Each one boasts an architecture driven by the Freescale IMX Processor, with the Elan configurator included as well.

“This is the most significant engineering effort in Elan’s 25-year history. Our team has invested heavily to re-architect the Elan Control Platform and make it the preeminent platform for the next-generation connected home,” said Joe Roberts, VP of products and marketing for Core Brands. “The Elan Control Platform is a cornerstone in our strategy to delight our dealers and their clients with innovative and integrated products backed by best-in-class service and support.”

Elan will release more information about each controller closer to the ship date, which is currently sometime in July. Contact your local dealer for more info and pricing.
