D-Link Gets into the Connected Home with Wi-Fi Smart Plug

The DSP-W215 offers control and monitoring of any device from anywhere at anytime.

We’ve seen a lot of smart devices pop up this year. There have been lighting and security options, temperature controls and more — and the smart crockpot is still to come. However, what do you plan to do with all of your “dumb” devices? Maybe you should consider pairing each one with D-Link’s Wi-Fi Smart Plug.

Also known as the DSP-W215, the Wi-Fi Smart Plug is the very first product in the company’s Connected Home line. Oh sure, they’ve had a slew of cameras and even a few media streamers. However, this new line is designed to bring mydlink to everyday household electronic devices.

Just plug the Wi-Fi Smart Plug into any outlet and press the WPS button on your router and on the SmartPlug. After the Smart Plug is set up, plug in whatever devices you want to monitor. From there, you’ll be able to peek in on that product from anywhere using the mydlink app for iOS and Android devices. This app allows users to turn devices on and off, set schedules, and monitor usage.

Besides simple remote controls, the Wi-Fi Smart Plug has a built-in thermal sensor that can turn devices off if they overheat.

“The launch of the Wi-Fi Smart Plug represents a key moment for D-Link as we look to expand our offering of connected home solutions designed for consumers looking for a convenient way to automate their home and control their devices from their smartphones and tablets,” said Daniel Kelley, D-Link’s vice president of marketing. “The Wi-Fi Smart Plug offers that convenience at an affordable price so customers can automate any range of devices in their home.”

D-Link is selling the Wi-Fi Smart Plug now, with an MSRP of $49.99.
