ADA Announces New Touchscreen

The new TS-8611 delivers audio and video control for under $700.

The TS-8611 is compatible with ADA's Suite 16, Suite 8x8, Suite 8200 and SWAN distributed audio systems.

Audio Design Associates is jumping on the touchscreen bandwagon, with its new TS-8611.

The unit promises complete audio/video control from one 240 x 320-pixel TFT LCD display. All users have to do is swipe or press corresponding graphic icons. It also has what the company calls “creature comforts” — tone controls, an alarm clock, sleep timer, dimming, and the ability to control other rooms.

ADA says that the touchscreen doesn’t need a special enclosure; it should squeeze into a standard single-gang box and connect with one Cat5 cable.

The TS-8611 is compatible with ADA’s Suite 16, Suite 8×8, Suite 8200 and SWAN distributed audio systems. Once you tap into a component, whether its an iPod, a music server, an ADA tuner, or other piece, users can surf channels, genres, artists, etc. — and get up to five lines of text on the display.

However, the most exciting thing about this product is its price tag: $699.

The TS-8611 will start shipping this month.
