Acoustic Research Debuts Xsight Remotes

Two new controllers include color LCDs, a touchscreen option, and PC programming possibilities.

Acoustic Research Xsight Touch

Acoustic Research has just announced its Xsight line of remote controls.

It looks like Acoustic Research wants some of Harmony’s remote business. They have announced the Xsight line of remote controls, which uses the PC to customize the user’s control experience.

Audiovox, the parent company of AR, is hoping one of the two Xsight remotes will interest consumers. The Xsight Touch (ARRX18G) has a color LCD touchscreen with a slider bar and RF capabilities (if you have the add-on $100 ARRE433B RF Extender Kit). It can control up to 18 devices. The Xsight Color (ARRX15G) has a color LCD without touch capabilities, but can still control up to 15 A/V components.

If you’re not comfortable with using the PC for programming, the deed can be done right on the handset. The codes for some of the most popular brands are stored right in the remote; just follow the prompts on the remote’s LCD. More complicated control options require a PC and the EZ-RC website. Those options include “one-touch activities” and creating favorite lists of channels, with logos.

Both models will be available this spring. The Xsight Color will cost $180, with the Xsight Touch going for $250.
