Universal to Release Alfred Hitchcock Blu-ray Box

A total of 15 of the Master's works will be released in "The Masterpiece Collection" this September.


The Master of Suspense will soon become the Master of Blu-ray. Universal Studios just announced plans to release Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection on Blu-ray on September 25, 2012.

The limited release will pack in 15 of Hitchcock’s classic films. According to the studio, 13 of those titles have never been released in the high-def format. Besides the collection, the box will include 15 hours of documentaries, filmmaker commentaries, interviews, screen tests, trailers and a new documentary “The Birds, Hitchcock’s Monster Movie.” The whole thing will be packaged with a 50-page book that has storyboards, costume sketches, correspondence, photographs, and much more.

The films in the set are Saboteur, Shadow of a Doubt, Rope, Rear Window, The Trouble with Harry, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, The Birds, Marnie, Torn Curtain, Topaz, Frenzy, and Family Plot.

Hitchcock worked with an incredible roster of talent over his career, including James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Julie Andrews, Paul Newman, Janet Leigh, Anthony Perkins, Tippi Hedren, Eva Marie Saint, Kim Novak and Sean Connery.

The MSRP on Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection is listed at $299.98. However, Amazon is currently taking pre-orders (with its pre-order price guarantee) at a discount. At last peek, the retailer had the set selling for $209.99.
