It’s been about three years since Theta Digital released its Compli Blu Blu-ray player. Now, the company is updating the machine, making its first universal player with 3D capabilities.

The new Compli Blu 3D is designed for use with advanced preamp/processors and outboard DACs like Theta Digital’s own Casablanca III HD and Generation VIII S3. It also works with any type of disc format, including 3D and 2D Blu-rays, DVD, DVD-A, SACD, HDCD, and much more.

On the audio side, the Compli Blu 3D can handle just about anything, including stereo, up to 7.1-channel high-res PCM, up to 5.1-channel DSD, bitstream or LPCM conversion of Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, and DTS-HD Master Audio.

Other features include Marvell’s QDEO processing, DLNA support, a built-in RJ-45 Ethernet port, and a WiFi adapter for streaming Netflix, VUDU, Pandora and more.

“It’s simply impossible to build a DAC into a disc player that can compare with the finest outboard units,” said Dave Reich, Theta Digital’s chief engineer. “Rather than waste money on inferior analog audio circuitry, we removed it to eliminate any possible interference from ground-currents, designed the power supply using a custom toroidal transformer and added RF filtering to reduce any possible noise.”

Available in a platinum or ebony color, the Compli Blu 3D also has options for a standard or rack-mount chassis, as well as 117- or 230-volt AC power supplies for use worldwide. Theta Digital is selling the Compli Blu 3D now, with an MSRP of $3,995.
