SVS Pumps Out 2000 Series Subwoofers

The SB-2000 and PB-2000 include a new driver and a 500-watt Sledge DSP amplifier.

The PB-2000 is selling now.

CES 2014 is underway. It’s the largest consumer electronics show of the year. It’s also the loudest. That means that there’s going to be a lot of bass bumping over the next few days — and a lot of it will be coming out of the SVS booth.

The company just unleashed a pair of new subwoofers, under the 2000 Series. Each one boasts redesigned drivers, specifically designed to handle the power of SVS’ new Sledge STA-500D amplifier with DSP controls.

Both the SB-2000 and the PB-2000 have a new 12-inch 2000-series driver. Those drivers include two high-grade ferrite magnets, an FEA-optomized motor, a reinforced Nomex spider, and more.

That aforementioned Sledge STA-500D DSP amplifier is sort of a big deal. It’s rated at 500 watts RMS continuous and 1100 watts peak dynamic, with an array of filters and volume, gain, and phase controls.

Weighing in at 35 pounds, the SB-2000 has a frequency response of 19-240Hz, a new driver and amplifier, a sealed cabinet and revised tuning. The PB-2000 comes in at almost double that weight. It’s hefty, but the ported subwoofer promises to dip down to 17Hz, with a front-firing 4-inch high-flow port with inner/outer port flares.

“500 watts of amplification, a painstakingly optimized driver, and a sophisticated DSP engine in a $700 subwoofer is simply unheard of, which is exactly how we like to do things at SVS,” Gary Yacoubian, the president of SVS. “The PB-2000 and SB-2000 integrate our best technology, engineering and design elements and hit a pricing sweet spot that will make them extremely appealing to audio and home theater enthusiasts.”

Both of the new subs are shipping now. SVS has priced the SB-2000 at $699, with the PB-2000 listed for $799.
