In case you needed another reason to see The Hobbit this winter: There will be special 3D glasses!
According to ComingSoon.net (via HobbitFilm.it), RealD will release special 3D glasses for the upcoming holiday blockbuster. It looks like RealD is offering them to theater owners, but we’re not sure how long they will be offered and whether or not they will be included with the price of a ticket.
The “middle earth”-inspired glasses also have “a folding arm frame and a hammer forged steel look.” Sure, they are a little dorky looking, but we’re guessing that they will become a collector’s item.
Also, if they work in RealD 3D theaters, that means they should also work with your passive 3D TV. Talk about a fun parting gift!
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012, with sequels coming in December 2013 and summer 2014.
