In the coming weeks, Panasonic plans to further expand upon the sports offerings for consumers with the activation of professional hockey and soccer apps. Details on these activations as well as a host of other sports, fitness, video streaming, social networking, and interactive gaming apps will be announced at a later date.

It wasn’t clear if the new apps would appear on 2010 models Viera Cast-enabled TVs or any Panasonic Blu-ray players. In January, Panasonic announced that it was changing the name of the online feature of it’s products from Viera Cast to Viera Connect. The company also improved the interface and added a number of new applications. Panasonic first started adding online connectivity to it’s TVs in 2008. In addition to the new announcements, other current applications include Skype voice and video calling, Netflix, Hulu, Twitter, Pandora, Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, Picasa, Weather, Bloomberg, and more.
