Panasonic Finally Getting into 4K Ultra HD with WT600

Panasonic's new 65-inch 4K TV is the first to support HDMI 2.0.

We knew this was coming, especially when reports started going around of a Taiwanese company supplying 4K panels, but it’s finally official—Panasonic is offering a 65-inch Ultra HD TV, and it’s not a plasma.

The VIERA WT600 Ultra HD TV is the first in the world designed for 4K 60p video signals and includes the brand new HDMI 2.0 specification and DisplayPort 1.2. This should make for an impressive display in your media room or home theater.

The WT600 LED, LCD TVs comes with THX certification like Panasonic’s other top TVs (the ZT60 and VT60 lines). It features a 2,400 Back Light Scanning (BLS) technology with local dimming which should create good black levels.

The set includes an onboard 4K H.264 (MPEG4) decoder, which can playback 4K video from a USB drive, SD card or from the internet. Panasonic’s Swipe & Share feature, which lets users wirelessly send photos from a smartphone or tablet, also works at 4K resolution.

Other video features include 4K Intelligent Frame Creation for smooth panning of up to 120 frames per second. A 4K Fine Remaster Engine upscales non-4K material to the TV’s native resolution. The set also includes an ISFccc Calibration Mode and works with CalMAN calibration software. An available app, offers Smart Calibration, which enables the viewer to set detailed correction curves for gamma, white point, and color saturation on the TV via their Android or iOS Smartphone or tablet.

Like other 2013 Panasonic TVs, this model includes the My Home Screen feature and a second remote with voice control and a touchpad.
