If you want to have a truly immersive audio experience (like the kind that gives you goosebumps), think about upgrading your A/V: room to accommodate one of these new 3D sound formats. That means you’ll need actual encoded content, as well as extra speakers and a compatible receiver.
There are a slew of Denon home theater receivers that can deliver: Dolby Atmos and DTS:X: tracks. The latest pair of options is: the: AVR-X4200W and AVR-X3200W, which include: support for Dolby’s object-based sound format right out of the box. The DTS:X perk: will then follow: via a free firmware upgrade sometime this fall.
Both models include the latest HDMI 2.0a inputs, with 4K Ultra HD support, HDR and HDCP 2.2 capability. Each model can also scale lower-resolution content to 1080p or even a near-4K quality.
Being that these Denon home theater receivers are designed for the latest and greatest rooms, the company was sure to pack each one with plenty of connectivity options. The AVR-X3200W and the AVR- X4200W have built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, AirPlay and DLNA. Each one: also provides instant access to web radio, Spotify Connect, Pandora and SiriusXM—but know that subscriptions and/or fees may apply.
The AVR-X3200W is a 7.2-channel Denon home theater receiver, which boasts 105 watts for each channel (8ohm, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.08% 2-ch drive), a quad-core 32-bit DSP processor, and ISF certification. Other features include Audyssey MultEQ XT with Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ, eight HDMI inputs, two HDMI outputs, and a front-panel USB input. This model also has 7.2-channel pre-outs, the option for two zones, and RS-232 control.
Although the AVR-X4200W is also a 7.2-channel receiver and has all of the same features listed above, it is a slight step up. That’s because this model boasts 125 watts per channel (8ohm, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.05% 2-ch drive) and the ability to do Dolby Atmos in 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 configurations. This model can also be upgraded to accommodate DTS:X and Auro-3D, although the latter is offered as a paid upgrade. Other features include a 192kHz/32-bit DAC, Audyssey MultEQ XT32 (Pro ready), three HDMI outputs, a photo input, 13.2-channel pre-outs, and the option for three zones.
Both of these Denon home theater receivers will start shipping sometime in August. The company has priced the AVR-X3200W at $999, with the AVR-X4200W listed for $1,499.
