Kaleidescape has been cranking out media servers for about 11 years now. However, the newly announced Kaleidescape Alto Movie Player promises to deliver Blu-ray quality to the masses, without all of the discs—and with cooperation from several major Hollywood studios.
According to Kaleidescape, the Alto is the first media server to import all of its locally-stored content from the cloud, via downloads from the Kaleidescape Store. That leaves options for 8,500 movies and 1,600 TV seasons, in Blu-ray or DVD quality.
Naturally, you can’t store all of those goodies, but the Alto should have plenty of room for your favorites. The hard drive can store 100 movies in Blu-ray quality or 600 in DVD quality. Of course, you can combine more than one Kaleidescape Alto media server, for up to four viewing zones and storage for up to 400 movies in Blu-ray quality (or 2,400 in DVD quality).
Other features include the easy Kaleidescape user interface, as well as the option for users to upgrade DVDs and Blu-rays to digital versions that you can snag at the Kaleidescape Store.
“Kaleidescape provides more than just products,” said Franklin Karp, COO at Audio Video Systems in Plainview, NY. “The company has always offered innovative value-added services ranging from system health monitoring to curating the best movie scenes to watch for bite-sized entertainment. Now, the Kaleidescape Store delivers the best movies as digital downloads, with the stunning quality of Blu-ray and support for Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, and DTS-HD Master Audio multichannel soundtracks. Streaming devices and services fall well short of the standard our clients expect from the home theater environments we create for them.”
Kaleidescape is selling the Alto now in the U.S. and Canada, with an MSRP of $2,495.
