Right now, the floor of the 2013 International CES is buzzing with the sounds of speakers in all shapes and sizes. It’s hard to escape, actually. However, Harman JBL is creating buzz for its latest release with a whopper of a price tag.
Harman JBL just announced its new flagship Project Everest DD67000 loudspeaker, which will be available next month for a cool $75,000 per pair.
The DD67000 boasts new woofers, a refined crossover network and an extended frequency response to beyond 50kHz. It has two 1501AL-2 cast-aluminum-frame woofers, a 476Be midrange/high-frequency compression driver, and a 045Be-1 ultra-high-frequency compression driver. Other features include computer-optimized Bi-Radial horns, acoustically inert SonoGlass material, and a DC bias system with four separate circuit boards for the crossover network.
The Project Everest DD67000 isn’t too hard on the eyes, either. It has the curved and angled surfaces of its predecessor, with a dramatically flared midrange horn, a new carbon-fiber baffle trim panel and elegant rosewood and maple finishes.
“Our previous Project Everest DD66000 was a landmark sonic achievement,” said Jim Garrett, director of marketing and product management for the Harman Luxury Audio Group and Loudspeakers. “However, in the six years since it was introduced, the Harman team in Northridge have not stood still. We have continued to advance the design to push the performance threshold of this class leading speaker, resulting in significant performance improvements that is sure to thrill the most veteran audiophiles and passionate music lovers.”
Designed for almost any room, the JBL Project Everest DD67000 loudspeaker can be fine-tuned via front-mounted control panels. It will start selling in February with an MSRP of $75,000 per pair.
