Kickstarter success story Vers, Inc. has announced plans to start shipping its 1Q speaker very soon.
In case you missed it, the 1Q is a handcrafted wood speaker, designed to work with mobile devices via Bluetooth. Besides looking smooth in wood, it’s also small enough to go in the palm of your hand.
The 1Q is a 3-inch wood cube, which packs in support for Bluetooth v2.1. It boasts a 30-foot range and 10 hours of battery life. One nifty feature is built-in auto switching, which can convert the unit from mono to stereo, if another unit is linked.
The company first introduced the product on the funding site Kickstarter about a month ago. With 7 days left on the pledge drive, the company has exceeded its original $10,000 goal by over $100K. From there, the company plans to focus on delivering orders, with a target date of November.
“The response to the 1Q on Kickstarter has been simply amazing, and has exceeded our expectations 10X,” says David Laituri, founder of Vers and 1Q designer. “We’ve also gotten a lot of feedback for our approach from the Kickstarter community, a great co-development experience for everyone at Vers!”
If you’re worried about what the fanfare is doing to our natural resources, Vers says it’s working with The Arbor Day Foundation and the U.S. Forestry Service to plant 100 new trees for each one used in 1Q production.
The Vers 1Q is available in Walnut, Bamboo, and a limited Kickstarter red Beech edition. A $95 pledge will secure you one 1Q unit, or you can wait until its official release and pay the $119.99 list price.
